COMUNIÓN: WILLY CHAVARRIA SS27

Willy Chavarria’s Comunión reminds us of what fashion can do when it refuses to separate aesthetics from politics. Presented at the headquarters of the French Communist Party in Paris, the collection brought together community, identity, Chavarria’s signature. The show carried the spirit of communion in its broadest sense: La família, stories intersecting, and clothing acting as an excuse for gathering.

Strong shouldered jackets, oversized trousers, leather outerwear, and sharply cut tailoring shared the runway with layered shorts, exposed waistbands, and worn out sportswear. The distressed sweatpants were among the strongest pieces in the collection. They carried the weight of memory, labor, and everyday life, speaking directly to the roots of the brand. They felt lived in rather than manufactured, reflecting the dignity and beauty Chavarria consistently finds in communities that luxury fashion has historically overlooked.

Nobody understands colour combinations quite like Willy Chavarria. Ice cream pastels, washed yellows, teal, lavender, watermelon pink, and cornflower blue came together creating combinations that felt deeply personal to the designer’s background.

The collection also demonstrated how Chavarria continues to expand his visual language while remaining unmistakably himself. The pointed collars, slick silhouettes, oversized proportions, and cinematic attitude were all present, yet there was a new softness running through the show. Ease and sophistication coexisted naturally. Every look felt connected to a larger narrative about belonging, pride, and visibility.

The most emotional moment came at the finale, when Willy Chavarria stood surrounded by the models. Watching him standing among the cast felt like watching someone finally see the universe they've been building for years come to life. The collection wasn't only about the clothes anymore. It became a portrait of the people, values and histories that have shaped his work over the years. That image stayed with me long after the runway ended.
